Here's a treat that many people are not aware of. Youtube the past year or two has increasing been updating the site to support full length movies/documentaries. What many Youtubers do not know is they could watch full length featured movies without the Part 1/10, Part 2/10, etc.

Youtube has a section of Full Length Documentaries and Feature Films. Even a free section which you may view here.

And with a recent announcement that Youtube will feature over 100 original channels in a year or two expect Youtube to replace cable/satellite very soon.

How to be logged into multiple Gmail accounts or any other account

I have multiple Gmail accounts, one for personal, one for work, and one just to play around with, and there have been times were I want to see all  my accounts at the same time.  How do I solve this issue? Well, I have been doing this for a long time and taking it for granted until I told my friend about it. I was surprised he didn't know . In order to have multiple Gmail accounts open or any other account open at the same time you can either do two things.

  1. Now all three of the most popular browser, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome have a privacy mode. You can have one account in normal mode and the other account in privacy mode. That way you will have two windows of each with a different account and you can see both at the same time.
  2. The Second way is to have different browsers. You may pick from the following three  Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. Open one account in one browser and the other in account in another browser.
You can either chose either if these steps and it will solve your problem. Happy browsing!!
Play Snake inside YouTube.com

What if you could turn a boring YouTube video into a little game. Well, you can! Google has placed an Easter egg inside their modern YouTube videos. Giving credit to my friend Noe, who led me to this finding, was tutoring  and wanted to show a helpful educational video to a youngster and accidentally used the arrows keys when trying to navigate the search box. The Snake game pop 'ed up in front of the video. I was stoked when I heard this. Maybe, this wont be as useful as other tips but for a fact it is exciting and fun!

Now, here is how to enable it:  Hold the left directional key down for about 3 seconds and press the up directional key, while still holding the left key. Now, you can play snake on top a YouTube video. Here is one you can try it on. Have fun!

App of the Week: Gesture Search (Android)

Each Tuesday we will feature a smartphone app of the week either iOS or Android compatible. Gesture Search by Google is an application that enables the user to search their phone's contents via writing, using your fingers instead of the conventional typing.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="124" caption="Image from Android Market Place"][/caption]

After installing via the Market the application indexes the contents on your phone. The time required to index may vary depending on the amount of content on your phone. You may also have it index the contents of your phone in the background when using the Gesture Search for the first time. Gesture Search utilizes image processing amongst other technical details to recognize what letter you are writing and provides list of potential  content that may match up what you are trying to spell.

For example,

Step 1: Draw a letter, let's say 'H'

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="480" caption="Image provided by Google"][/caption]

Step 2: Write the next letter. Note as you write the second letter, a list behind it is visible where you could select content that matches what you are looking for.

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="480" caption="Image provided by Google"][/caption]

Step 3: Repeat Step 2 until the content that you are looking for on your phone is available for selection.

I found Gesture Search easy to use and prefer it over searching manually via multiple screens or using the on-screen keyboard. Note: My phone does not have a slide out QWERTY keyboard.

Gesture search is great for searching for contacts, website book marks, apps and more. I definitely recommend you give it a try.

Unfortunately, you need to launch it each time to use it, which is a good reason to have it on your home screen for easy access. Hopefully, in future releases you will be able to simply "Gesture Search" from your home screen.

Google Takeout - Who is hungry!

Sorry! No, Google does not have a food service but something similar. It's not with food but with your data. Now, your data is very valuable to you but also to online companies.  If you are a Google user you might use the majority of their services.  It's a scary thought that one day all your mail, posts, contacts, and other things will always stay up there without being able to have a copy.  Luckily, the data liberation team, "an engineering team at Google whose only purpose is to make it easy for users to move their data out of Google products, has been involved in Google Takeout . Yes, here is where i got the pun. If you head over to Google.com/takeout you may export all your data from Google to keep locally.  I was very excited when I heard about this because I truly believe the user should be in full control,  like the data liberation team states in their mission statement...

"Users should be able to control the data they store in any of Google's products.  Our team's goal is to make it easier to move data in and out."

Take advantage of this and really push for other companies to be  open with there data.

Google Flights

The holiday season is around the corner and many people travel around the country to visit family. One thing that is always a hassle, now that travel agents aren't around as much, is booking that flight ticket. Google made it easier by making a simple flight tool at www.goole.com/flights. This was expected because they acquired ITA in April 2011.

With this simple tool you can choose from the regular parameters like price range, duration, departure, return, and many more  but the thing that I really like is the graph they show you which can be manipulated to see the shortest and cheapest flight. I believe Google did a good job. I know I wont be visiting those other cluttered sites to search for flights.

Google has a Hotel Finder Tool

Google has come out under experimental mode a service to find trustworthy hotels in any place. They have made it easy by having filtering options in price, rating, and even location. In the location menu you may draw a shape on a map, to tell Google in what area you want to stay. It also highlights on the map, areas that are popular among tourists. I find it very straight forward without any ads. Google also does a good job of compiling all the hotels information.  Take a look at it at www.google.com/hotelfinder.

Spell checking for dummies

I am a college student who is pursing computer science and who also working at a medical device company. You would think that I'm a good speller and at least know how to cross my "t" and dot my "i"s. Well, I apologize but that is not my strong suit. I am a terrible speller. I think some of my old post may show that. How do I handle this? I rely a lot on spell check but I have found out that in Gmail, my browser, and even Microsoft Office, all give me different results for each misspelled word. Many times I have not been able to correct my misspelled word. I rely on another tool. This tool has access to any of the data on the information superhighway or Internet. Google! To find the correct spelling I copy and paste my misspelled word into Google and out pops out the correct word. In addition, this shows you how powerful Google is.

Map the Distance You Ran or Cycled

Google, for a while now, has had Google Pedometer. Google pedometer is a mapping service that  you use to lay out the course you want or have taken. This way you know how long the trip is.  That way you can see how fast you are going running or Cycling. Its simple to use.

First,  In the 'Jump to' box enter a city to find where you have run or will run.

Second,  Click 'Start recording' and double-click on the map. Start out with Starting point and double-click till you map your route.

There are many numbers available like Mile markers, total distance, and what metric system to use.  Have a nice exercise.

Who has Unfriended You on Facebook?

I can say that three people this week have unfriended me on Facebook. You know who you are! Well, before I start any drama, I have found a browser add-on that notifies and integrates into Facebook to let you know who has unfriended you. It works really well because it seems as if Facebook has integrated this feature. Simply install the add-on, Unfriend Finder, to your browser(Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera) and log into Facebook. You will have four buttons in the upper right hand side of your account instead of three. The "Unfriends" button will let you know when someone has decided not to be your friend anymore. Also, this is the right way to do it, do not fall for the scams inside Facebook.

Use an RSS Feed to Buy a Car

I will not deny that many people still pick up the classic Trader Express to buy a used car.  Why not step it up to the 21 Century and use an RSS feed to keep up-to-date on the latest car post? This way you will have the latest and greatest at your fingertips. Before we start, I would like to thank my supervisor for the great idea of having a RSS feed in Outlook to find the car I want. First, you will need a RSS reader.   Some are Outlook, a desktop mail client that supports RSS, or Goggle Reader, a free web app provided by Google, or any other RSS reader.

Second, setup a specific search on Craigslist or a site that lets you grab a search RSS.

Third, when you find the RSS Button right-click on it and copy the link address.

Lastly, paste that into your reader and wait for your desired car to come in. :-)

A Google a Day?

A Google day keeps the doctor away? No no, wrong saying, but do you like trivia?   What about getting a trivia question every day and using Google to find it. Yes, that's where I got AGoogleADay.com. This site presents to you a question and like they say

There's no right way to solve it, but there's only one right answer.

You use Google to find it.

Here is a sample question from April 7.

I can grow my body back in about two days if cut in half. Many scientists believe I do not undergo senescence. What am I?

Good luck on your Google hunt.

How to Make Chrome your Default PDF Viewer

We all have seen how every time we re-start our computer  Adobe is installing and updating their software, like Adobe Reader.   Adobe Reader has been a defacto on all machines to view PDF's but did you know that lately Adobe has a lot of issues with security.  Hackers have targeted Adobe to get into your computers. Find a PDF on your system and right-click it, then click "Open With...".

A window should pop up with programs to choose from.  Make sure there is a check box that is checked on the bottom that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".

Make sure you have Chrome selected. If you do not see it click "Browse...".

If you know where Google has been installed, then just browse to that location otherwise, you can right-click on the Chrome shortcut then, Properties->Shortcut.

You’ll see the location(address) in the Target box. Copy it over to the previous window and you are set to go.

Want an Easy Way to Root Your Andriod Phone?

As Android phones get more popular people get interested in pushing their phones to the limit.  Like Apple's iOS devices you may in a form "jailbreak" to gain full access.  In Android it is not called Jailbreak . The word "root" is used.  This allows you to back up your Android phone, put custom ROM's and basically fully customize it.  Unrevoked allows you to download some software that will "root" your phone in one click.  I have done this with my Android Droid  Incredible. It was a simple step to gain access to the root structure and modified its contents. Below are the cellphones that are supported by Unrevoked. Have fun and enjoy  but I am not responsible for any damage to your phone.

Get notified when Google Maps updates a certain location
[caption id="" align="alignright" width="240" caption="Image by heiwa4126 via Flickr"]Google Maps Marker in Tokyo[/caption]

Many of the times we are on Google Maps looking if our own house is visible. Unfortunately, they are outdated and not live because of security reasons.  What if you could get notified when a certain aerial image was updated at a certain  point? That would be awesome! So, you did not have to go back constantly to check if it was updated.  If you have a Google account and can click this link , followyourworld.appspot.com you may tell Google to notify you when there is a new image.

It is easy. Just give it the location and an email address.  That is it.

Subscribe to Google Calendars

Many of you have a Gmail account but do you use Google Calendar? If you do not, it is a very good way to organize everything, especially if you have  smart phone. I have been using Google Calendar for about a year now and  wherever I go I can plan trips, reschedule meetings and get reminders that I need like change my tires on my car. Today, I saw these reminders and thought to my self. I bet there are more calendars out there that can become useful to me, like when does my favorite team play. Indeed, I found many. If you sign in to your Google Calendar and look at your left column, you will see a section that says "Other Calendars". Under that section there is a  link that says "add" . Click on it.

After you click on it you will get a small pop-up and select "Browse Interesting Calendars"

You will be taken to a screen like this:

Here you can subscribe to any Calendar. Google has subscriptions to ...

Have Santa Call a Friend or a Family Member

Have you ever wanted Santa to call you? Well now you can offer that which you could not hear to someone else, kids would really like this. There is a site set up by Google called Send A Call from Santa. The site enables the sender (you) to compile a personalized messaged using the template and options they provide. In addition they allow you to preview the message. You may send this message via e-mail, phone or Facebook. If you are using the phone option you must provide your number and the person whom you wish Santa to call. Although note there is a bit of advertising for Google Voice following the message.
